Schools and colleges

We have been delighted that in the past two years, that many of the schools in the city have been involved with the Carnival in some way from fantastic maypole dancers to making decorations, joining the Street Carnival and even building a float for the river procession (Madley School are currently the Wye winners as far as schools are concerned).

In 201 Madley Primary School, St Francis Xaviers RC Primary School, Blackmarston School and St James C of E Primary School all took part in the Street Carnival, alongside Hereford College of Art student as well as lots of families and individuals.

Your school, academy, college, band, group or club could be part of the fun in 2017.

This year’s theme is mythical beasts and we are encouraging everyone to channel their inner mermaid or Minotaur.  But there are plenty more mythical beasts to choose from so come as a Jabberwocky, Gruffalo, Wild Thing or one of Newt Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts (the River Carnival is surely the place to find them).

Its so easy to get involved you don’t have to sign up; just turn up on Castle Green at about 12.30 (to get in the mood) and join the fun at 1.00pm.  Make  costume, carnival crown or mask, carnival structure, banner, flag or come along and join the Carnival Band – we’ll teach you how to drum at the Carnival.
